Conner Ives: Ready-To-Wear SS24

Conner Ives’ SS24 presentation was equal parts satire and nuance with a healthy serving of absurdity. Staying true to his considered design lexicon, the New York-born designer focused on developing a character-driven collection, with the most ludicrous aspects of American stereotypes as his benchmark. Entitled Late Capitalism, the seed for the 20-look offering was planted when Ives saw a TikTok video depicting an ardent shopper eagerly waiting in line for a sample sale, whilst smoke from neighbouring Canadian wildfires cloaked the sky behind her.

A shrewd and sarcastic depiction of the economic realities of our beloved industry, the CSM-grad used vintage and deadstock fabrics to craft criss-cross crop tops, lace-trimmed co-ords and a flappy skirt dress topped with a ‘Cardiac Rehab’ emblazoned blue tee. A particular highlight, Ives presented a shin-scraping bandeau dress made entirely of 9,000 metal can tabs, with a low-slung mini bag to match.

Rising star Alex Cosani was Ives’ face of choice to present the new offering. Continuing their famed relationship from last season – where Cosani was Ives’ bride in a puffball white gown and top hat – the partnership further fed into the energy and caricature at the heart of the collection. A perfect blend of humour and reflection, Ives’ collection this season had serious flare.
