Regal. That’s the first word that comes to mind when I look at these images of Alexander McQueen’s Pre-Fall 2016 offering. It has about it the distinct whiff of a royal household. Maybe it’s those opera gloves? The queen-like prints? The marabou feathers? It’s opulent. But actually kind of sexy – a flash of bra strap, peek-a-boo sheer tops to bare your breasts, python-printed leather panels. Less dear Queen Liz, more Liz Hurley in short-lived E Entertainment sitcom, The Royals. Surprisingly Sarah Burton did not cite as an official inspiration. Instead, it was apparently about her tendency to collect little treasures, her magpie-like eye found in the jewel-encrusted embellishments, naturalistic prints, floating bits of lace. Call it luxe-hoarding, if you will.
